If there’s two things that I keep telling myself postpartum this (third) time around, it’s these:
Water washes the day away.
I heard that saying once before and unfortunately I can’t remember where (if you know, please let me know so I can give credit). But ever since I heard it, it just stuck with me.
These days, as a full-time postpartum mom, it’s basically on repeat in my brain. Because some days feel blurry and exhausting. And almost like they’re all blending into one.
When that happens, water feels like this tiny reset button — a way to rinse off the day, and start fresh :)
Having a bad day? Take a shower. Feeling overwhelmed? Run a warm bath. Water just has a way of resetting things. (And we love that about her.)
The other thing I keep telling myself is: Just add water.
I first read this on Cup of Jo, where a reader named Chloe shared her favorite parenting advice:
If they are crabby, add water. This has served me well over the years and believe it or not, with a 14, 10 and 8-year-old, I still use it. Run a bath, take a shower, water the garden, wash the dog, have a hot drink, have a cold drink… just add water. It works 99% of the time.
Yesterday, my 3.5 year old daughter wanted to help me tackle a huge load of dishes. And honestly, my first instinct was to say no because obviously it would take wayyy longer with her helping.
But then I was like.. wth, why not? So I cut my sponge in half, give her the other half, and we got to it. When we finished everything, she said to me something along the lines of “I feel happy.”
Ngl, my heart might’ve melted for a bit 🥹 that girl sure knows how to pull at the heartstrings.
And now that I’m writing this all out, it reminds me of another point I wanted to share: kids really do remind us to slow down (even without thinking about it).
At the time, I just wanted to get the dishes done and over with. But she reminded me to ✨stay in the moment✨ Who knew this tiny little girl would be my mindfulness coach? And for free?!
Anyway, here’s to hoping this stage lasts, where she still wants to do the dishes with me & thinks it’s the best thing ever.
