Happy Wednesday!
Welcome to the August edition of Monthly Mixes. As summer comes to an end, I’m happy to share the best of what I’ve found and enjoyed this month. I’d love to hear what you’ve been into this month as well, so feel free to share your favorites with me!
In case you missed it, here are the issues I shared this month:
Life’s tough—here’s what I’m doing to make it easier
The best tips and tricks I discovered this August
How a deep conversation ended up changing everything
This past month has been a wild one. Even though my kids aren’t in school yet, I’m definitely feeling that back-to-school stress. But life keeps moving forward, and I’m happy about that.
I’ve been diving into a lot of audiobooks lately and finished A Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, and Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews.
If you’ve read any of these, I’d like to have a word lol
Last month, as I was putting together July’s Monthly Mix, I had a bit of a revelation.
I realized that while the links I’ve been sharing from previous newsletters haven’t been getting much love, the deep dives and personal reflections are what you all enjoy most.
So I’m embracing this change ✨
If you haven’t yet noticed, I’m now focusing on more heartfelt, essay-style content. Exploring all sorts of topics that I hope resonate with both of us.
Her Second Brain began as a way to curate and share all the interesting things I found online.
Buuut… it’s clear to me that what you connect with most are the moments when I slow down and share my thoughts more deeply.
I still plan on bringing you internet gems here and there, but my main focus will be writing from a place of connection and authenticity, with a hope of adding even an ounce value to your day.
For now, this feels like the right direction, but who knows where we’ll go next?
Just as life changes, so will this space.
Grateful to have you along for the ride ♥️
These are items I've loved or discovered recently that I think you might enjoy too…
A cozy touch of nostalgia. I recently received my first magazine in the mail. It reminded me so much of when I was younger—reading Highlights as a kid at a doctor’s office.
My favorite little treat. I bought an *annoyingly* huge bag of these from Costco. Just pop them in the freezer or fridge (depending on the texture you like), and enjoy!
A cute Etsy find. Adding this cute iPhone shell cover to my wishlist <3
Read/Watch/Listen
“Closure isn’t guaranteed to make you feel better.” , writer of c’est la vie, wrote an amazing piece on closure that is a must-read.
Finally watched Twisters and enjoyed it (because Glen Powell, duh). And as a runner-up, this movie was really really good. Here’s the premise:
Rory and Cobby are an unexpected duo teaming up for a heist. When things go wrong, they must work together to escape the police, stubborn officials, and a vengeful crime boss.
Some really great music came out this month! Exhibit A | B | C
That’s it for the August edition of Monthly Mixes. Here’s to a new month full of coziness, comfort, and creativity. Enjoy the rest of your week!
I read The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion this past month too! It wasn't what I expected, but it made me realize what a mind Joan Didion has! Never read anything quite like that before!
Love your curation posts, but I’m so excited to see more of the content that is speaking to you!
And thank you so much for sharing my post!!!
